The reference library, situated in the modern new Heritage Centre, contains more than 15000 sources: books, magazines, pamphlets, dissertations and essays. It houses the valuable Hertzog collection as well as the collection of the Northern Transvaal branch of the Genealogical Society of South Africa The library specializes in the history of South Africa and its cultural history. The collection focuses on the language, education, church history, the history of places and place names, military history, family history and heritage conservation. The Great Trek, Voortrekker Monument, Anglo-Boer War, Afrikaans cultural history, Afrikaans personalities is part of the specialized focus. Family history research is becoming increasingly popular, and the library offers a wealth of information. As an affiliate library to the Family History Library (Genealogical Society of Utah), we have access to church and civil records on microfilm at a reasonable tariff.

Mondays – Fridays: 08h00 – 15h00
Saturdays: closed except for 2nd Saturday of the month 10h00 – 14h00

Entrance fees: 

R50 for the use of the library only R15 heritage levy
