NEW HERITAGE CENTRE ON THE VOORTREKKER MONUMENT HERITAGE SITE IN PRETORIA
The Heritage Foundation is a non-profit Section 21 Company that was founded to conserve threatened heritage resources, especially those of emotional, cultural and historical importance to the Afrikaans speaking section of the population.
The Heritage Foundation took the initiative to build a new Heritage Centre on the VTM Heritage Site in Pretoria. This centre is nearing completion and will be officially opened, on 5 September.
The Heritage Centre consists of a three story building that contains museum stores, work shops, archives, a library and a research centre as well as several other related facilities such as offices, and an auditorium. The most prominent feature will be a modern exhibition which will consist of information panels, audio-visual programmes, sound tracks touch-screen data bases and other focal points. The exhibition will primarily be directed at international visitors, with the aim of doing justice to the history, role and contribution of the Afrikaners to South Africa in an honest and objective (as far as possible) manner.
Several institutions have already donated an amount of R10,4 million of the projected cost of R11,8 million. Although the Heritage Foundation has already obtained bridging funds for the rest of the amount needed, the ideal is to open the Heritage Centre without debt.
To achieve this objective, donations are invited. Persons wishing to support the project are cordially invited to do so in any of the following ways:
- SMS the word erfenis to 36196. Each message costs R5, of which more than half will be paid to the Heritage Foundation.
- Deposit any cash amount into the account of the Heritage Foundation at ABSA Brooklyn, branch code 632005, account number 405 620 9535. Please fax a copy of the payment slip to 086 615 9587.
Further information concerning the project and other possible ways of support can be obtained from firstname.lastname@example.org or 083 300 4580.
